KatieCat Biography

“Katie Catinella is the rarest of jazz singers; she has a real voice, a voice that has beauty, range and depth…. This allows her to fully communicate the beauty and meaning of the lyrics to the listener.”

Jim Gala, Pianist and founder of The Jazz Society of Ecuador

“One listener thought you were reminiscent of Jane Monheit, but I didn’t think so…I thought Julie London with a little more soul…”

Vocalist KatieCat enjoys a performance career that embraces a wide variety of musical genres including jazz, blues, international favorites and popular songs from many eras.

She was born and raised in Napa Valley, California and studied theater arts and classical voice at San Francisco State University.  After graduating from college, she honed her vocal skills in a variety of Bay Area ensembles, including the Oakland Symphony Chorus.  When she found her way to a jazz ensemble she felt that she had found her true calling. She veered away from her classical voice training and enrolled at the Jazz School in Berkeley, California.  She was soon landing club gigs as a budding jazz vocalist.

In 2006 KatieCat teamed up with pianist and singer John Cain to form the KatieCat & Cain duo. The two have been delighting audiences since with their fun to sophisticated vocal harmonies.

In May 2009, KatieCat released her debut CD Blue Cat Diamonds, a refreshingly orchestrated compilation of swing, blues, bossa nova and classic 70’s pop songs.  In August 2009, KatieCat released her second CD, KatieCat Jazz, Live with the John Cain Jazz Trio. In February 2015, KatieCat & Cain released Recipe For Love, a much praised collection of duets in a variety of musical styles.
